IMPORT AND SCALE THE STONE |
|
This ring has one large emerald cut stone bezel set with the long axis of the stone crossing the finger. The stone will be rotated and positioned when the ring is extruded. |
The first thing to do is importthe emerald cut stone model. I downloaded this stone model from 3dlapidary.com. This is an excellent web site and has lots of intersting information. |
The emerald cut stone model isapprox .70 x .33 x . 30 mm's and the blue topaz stone measures 11.11 x 9.00 x 5.96mm. There are numerous ways to scale objects - for this example I'm going to scale the stone model one axis at a time. In Rhino: Transform, Scale, Scale1-D, and mouse left-click on the stone object |
Press enter to accept the objectselection and type 0,0 for the origin. |
Now enter the scale factor 15.870 (11.11 / .70). Move and left-click the mouse on a positive x-axis location to scale the model. |
Scale the Y-axis:Transform, Scale, Scale 1-D, mouse left-click on the stone object. Enter 0,0 for the origin 27.27 (9.00 / .33) for the scale factor and click on the positive Y-axis. |
To scale the stone object on the Z-axischange the viewport. View, Set View, Right. Scale the Z-axis: Transform, Scale, Scale 1-D, mouse left-click on the stone object. Enter 0,0 for the origin 19.87 (5.96 / .30) for the scale factor and click on the positive Z-axis. |
To change the display to 4 viewports:View, Viewport Layout, 4 Viewports To Zoom the stone object: View, Zoom, Extents, All. Finally save the model as StoneRing1.3dm. |
Change the layer namefrom 'default' to 'stone' Edit, Layers, Edit Layers... Right click on 'DEFAULT' Rename, and enter 'Stone' |
There are lots of settingsfor rendering and frankly they can be very confusing Much of the confusion comes from different settings for different types of displays: Wireframe, Shaded, Ghosted, X-ray and Rendered. To set the Material Properties for Rendering: Edit, Object Properties... F3, left click on the stone, select Material select Basic set the Color set Gloss Finish and set Transparency |
To set the rendered background color Tools, Options..., Rhino Render, under Render Colors click on backgrond and set the color |
Now to enable the render settings:Tools, Options..., Display, check Use Render Settings |
right click on 'Perspective' and selcet 'Rendered Display' or Ctrl+Alt+R To turn on rendering |
The rendered stone model.Save the model. |
